IMPORTANT NOITCE RE: SALARY: As per DES guidelines, NEW APPOINTEES who
are entering this grade for the first time will start at the MINIMUM
POINT of the scale. Incremental credit MAY ONLY apply, if, immediately
prior to appointment, the appointee is already a serving Civil or
Public Servant. Rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time
in line with Government pay policy. _STARTING SALARY IS NOT SUBJECT TO

INITIAL HEADQUARTERS/DUTIES:

The post holder will be located in the GRETB Further Education and
Training (FET) Department in Mervue Galway. Successful post holder(s)
may be transferred to another area within the organisation to allow
for the allocation of additional duties, as and when required, which
may include the reassignment to other duties where necessary.

THE POSITION:

The National Further Education and Training (FET) Strategy **Apply on
the website**. The Professional Development role will involve
planning, conducting, and administering programmes that train/upskill
employees and improve their skills and knowledge. The RPL role
initially involves managing the process whereby skills and
knowledge/qualifications gained through life outside of formal
education and training by a prospective learner can be evaluated and
validated with the intention of gaining access to FET courses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To participate, under the direction and advice of the Director of
Further Education & Training and the FET Senior Management team and in
co-operation with other FET managers and staff, in the organisation,
co-ordination and monitoring of any activities which may be involved
in or arise out of the appointment within the Board?s scheme, as the
Chief Executive may decide.

THE INITIAL DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT MAY NOT NECESSARY BE CONFINED TO
THE FOLLOWING:

PROFESSIONAL LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT ROLE

Working in the FET Support and Development Unit.

* Supporting staff in identifying PL&D needs and facilitating refunds
to staff on approved professional learning and development courses.
* Assist in developing a GRETB PLD Strategy which will ensure the
implementation of the National PLD Statement of Strategy and GRETB's
Strategy Statement **Apply on the website**.
* Provide support to new and existing PLD initiatives in the form of
administrative and educational inputs.
* Collaborate with Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Department in
planning, designing, developing, and evaluating, training to staff.
* Plan the provision of effective targeted PD programmes across
GRETB which best meet the needs of staff/programmes/centres/FET and
GRETB.
* Conduct a Training Needs Analysis and Skills Audit of Staff in
GRETB.
* Promote organisational wide PLD. Plan and deliver targeted PLD
provision for the wider Organisation, having an appreciation of the
benefits of integrating PLD across all sections of the Organisation;
identify PLD themes each year for all staff to include areas such as
Inclusion, Wellness and Environment.
* Update the PL&D Intranet site with PD resources for staff. Create
and maintain a calendar of GRETB strategic PLD activities which will
facilitate a centralised online booking system for all GRETB PL&D
Activities
* Implement a system for recording and tracking system for
professional learning and development activity for staff of GRETB.
* Employ continuous improvement models to allow for effective
planning, implementation, review and evaluation of the PLD service,
reporting to the FET Manager on developments and provision
* Develop and encourage partnerships and links between internally
between staff and departments within GRETB and externally with
statutory and other providers
* Develop project plans, reports and adhere to funding requirements
* Promote networking, both nationally and locally, supporting
participation in Professional Learning and Development and
facilitating a co-ordinated input from the sector
* Assist in the management of resources, e.g., financial, premises,
materials, personnel etc as appropriate, relevant to the needs of the
local programme

RECOGNISED PRIOR LEARNING ROLE (RPL)

Responsibility for coordinating Recognising Prior Learning (RPL) to
enable learners access to FET programmes by RPL.

Consult closely with internal stakeholders to ensure the engagement of
FET management and practitioners in the reviewing of existing RPL
policy, future plans and actions.

* Commitment to engaging in continuous professional development and
attendance at RPL Training.
* Provide local guidance to staff on the academic assessment of all
RPL applications and the RPL approval process itself.
* Advise Course co-ordinators/ Admissions / Tutors of the outcomes
of all RPL applications.
* Liaise with other RPL Co-ordinators nationally to establish a
community of expertise on RPL matters and to ensure consistency of
practice to safeguard academic standards.

Undertake any other duties appropriate to the needs of the local
scheme as may be assigned by the Director of FET for the effective and
efficient management of resources and having regard to the changing
needs of the service.
