A PART TIME COMMUNITY HEALTH DEVELOPMENT WORKER

(pro rata). The post is permanent, subject to funding and the
successful completion of a 6 month probationary period.

The primary objective of this post is to lead in the development of
local Traveller led groups in the five hubs in North Cork, to build
their capacity to participate in the decision-making, planning,
provision and delivery of appropriate health services for their
community. This will lead to positive outcomes for the Traveller
Community and positively influence and enhance their health and social
gain (as identified in the priorities outlined in the All Ireland
Traveller Health Study).

To work in conjunction with the TNC?s staff and Board of Management,
HSE Primary Care Team, Community Works Department, Traveller Health
Unit and other relevant stakeholders and agencies to enable Local
Groups to access information and opportunities that will enable them
to grow and develop.

We are looking for a Part Time Community Health Development Worker who
has a qualification and experience in community development, primary
health care, human rights or related field and who has a minimum of 3
years relevant experience working directly with the Traveller
community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE:

* To directly engage with North Cork?s Traveller community,
building positive relationship which will lead to empowerment and
affect real social change.
* Developing initiatives to engage participation with Traveller men
and increase participation in health, wellbeing and development
activities.
* To support Traveller participation with relevant statutory and
non-statutory organisations and agencies in North Cork, across Cork
county and nationally.
* To support the TNC in ensuring the development of project
activities so that the quality of life of North Cork?s Traveller
Community is improved through a series of health and community
development initiatives.

AS PART OF OUR INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE AND SUPPORT TRAVELLER LEADERSHIP,

TNC (Travellers of North Cork) Clg. is a Traveller led human rights
organisation, working in partnership with the settled community. We
are committed to promoting a greater understanding of Traveller Rights
and Culture and Traveller health needs. Our project operates as a
Primary Health Care Project, which is a Traveller peer led programme,
whereby Travellers engage and work with their own community, towards
improving the health status (physical, social and mental wellbeing) of
Travellers, and achieving equality of outcomes for the Traveller
Community in North Cork.
