BRAD?G YOUTH DIVERSION PROJECT - ROMA FAMILY SUPPORT WORKER

Brad?g Youth Service (BYS) is a community-based project working with
young people and families in the North West Inner City. Brad?g Youth
Service consists of two internal strands, one of which is the Youth
Diversion which is a Youth Diversion Project that is funded by EU
Funds Unit.

Youth Diversion Projects (YDP) are community-based, initiatives which
primarily seek to divert young people from anti-social and/or criminal
behaviour. This is done by providing suitable activities to facilitate
personal development, promote civic responsibility and improve long
term employability prospects. Brad?g Youth Diversion Project supports
and engages young people in the North West Inner city. We wish to
invite energetic and interested individuals to apply for the following
post.

Brad?g Youth Service are looking to recruit a bi-lingual Roma Family
Support Worker to be part of the diversion team. This position aims to
support Family members of Roma young people who have entered the
Justice system and are hard to reach within the community. The support
worker will join the Roma team and work alongside a Roma Youth Justice
worker and Roma Activities and Support worker to identify and support
Family Members of Roma participants in the project who need additional
support.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

* A recognised third level qualification in /youth
work/community/family support/social care or equivalent with a minimum
of 1 years? experience
* Good English language skills and be fluent in Romanian and/or a
Romani dialect
* Experience working with the Roma Community
* Experience working with children and families in a community
setting
* Full Clean Driving Licence is desirable
* Knowledge, empathy and understanding of social exclusion and its
impact on individuals and families in the wider community

KEY SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

* Assess and respond to the needs of the parents/guardians and/or
other family members of YDP participants.
* Engage with approximately 5 - **Apply on the website** families
depending on the level of need and intervention required.
* Develop case management plans with the family in relation to the
level and nature of support required.
* Provide a safe place for the parents to address their own issues
or any underlying issues the family needs to address and work on.
* Roll out evidence based parenting programmes relevant to the needs
of families, e.g. Parents Plus; Strengthening Families; etc.
* Identifying the needs of project participants? families in line
with the YLS/CMI 2.0 and in conjunction with the Youth Justice Workers
and developing case plans to meet those needs.
* Designing, implementing and evaluating outcomes focused parenting
and parent/ child interventions
* Provide parents with the tools/skills to parent a young person
with difficult behaviours in a positive, nurturing?and assertive way.
* To review progress on an ongoing basis with the Line Manager and
adapt intervention plan accordingly.
* Build and maintain relationships with local stakeholders,
particularly An Garda S?och?na and other services engaged with young
people and families in the project catchment area.

* Ability to build and maintain confident, effective and positive
relationships with adults and young people
* Good leadership, facilitation and group work skills
* Good interpersonal skills, including ability to liaise with a wide
range of contacts and build and maintain effective working
relationships
* Ability to be proactive, use own initiative and work effectively
within a pressurised environment
* Positive and flexible approach to teamwork and collaboration
* Excellent administration, time management and report writing
skills
* Excellent computer skills, including Word processing, Excel,
Internet and CRM
* A commitment to equality, interculturalism and anti-racism
* Ability to understand and maintain professional boundaries
* Knowledge of evidence based programmes e.g. drugs education
prevention, parenting, family support
