LOCATION: Option of working from Peter McVerry Trust office based in
either Cork (city centre), Limerick (city centre) or Galway (Tuam)

REPORTING: Head of Communications

McVerry Trust provides low-threshold entry services, primarily to
younger persons and vulnerable adults with complex needs and offer
pathways out of homelessness based on the principles of the Housing
First model.

THE OPPORTUNITY

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a capable and creative
professional to join Peter McVerry Trust?s energetic Communications
team.

The Communications Officer will support the Head of Communications in
delivering all aspects of the Communications Strategy, grow our
organisation?s audience and build our brand.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work from a
Peter McVerry Trust office in either Cork, Limerick or Galway.

OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

* Work on a daily basis to progress the key objectives of the
Communications Strategy.
* Assist in meeting the communication needs of all departments and
teams within the organisation.
* Develop and implement project plans for Peter McVerry Trust?s
campaigns, events and marketing work.
* Monitor and report on communications and media coverage associated
with Peter McVerry Trust.
* Identify and develop opportunities to strengthen Peter McVerry
Trust?s media profile on a national, regional and local basis.
* Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement through ongoing
review of current practices, informed by feedback from key
stakeholders and best practice.

_MEDIA RELATIONS_

* Build and maintain relationships with relevant journalists.
* Identify opportunities to present and publicise the needs of
participants and the work of Peter McVerry Trust.
* Proactively and quickly respond to stories as they break and
assist in the framing of the organisation?s response.
* Work with colleagues across different departments to develop
balanced media coverage reflecting the organisations needs as whole.
* Provide media expertise and advice to colleagues as required, for
example the office of CEO for media interviews.
* Help develop creative ideas to raise Peter McVerry Trust?s
profile in line with the ethos and organisational strategy.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists,
producers and media professionals.

_MEDIA MONITORING_

* Maintain a detailed and accurate database of Peter McVerry Trust
media coverage.
* Ensure the timely sharing of important media coverage to the
senior team where relevant.
* Ensure all departments are aware and briefed ahead of major
communications events and coverage.
* Show awareness in identifying risk or potential risk scenarios
that may impact on participants or the charity.

_PETER MCVERRY TRUST MATERIALS_

* Assist with the preparation and distribution of press statements
and information notes.
* Assist with writing, editing and proofing of communications
publications and materials as well as all external materials issued by
the organisation.
* Assist with the drafting and editing of Peter McVerry Trust
newsletters, press releases, website articles and other communications
material.
* Assist with the development and design of Peter McVerry Trust
materials in line with the needs of the various departments include
fundraising, HR and Services.
* Monitor Peter McVerry Trust?s materials and external
communications to ensure compliance with organisational ethos, vision
and strategic plan.

_OTHER COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES_

* Assist in the delivery and organisation of conferences, seminars,
press conferences, report launches and photocalls.
* Assist with the development of social media content and campaigns.
* Assist with the development of Peter McVerry Trust publications
including annual reports and newsletters.
* Undertake any other duties consistent with the position as may be
assigned by the Head of Communications.

REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for an excellent communicator who can work both
independently and collaboratively in teams.

* Commitment to the vision and mission of Peter McVerry Trust.
* Third level qualification in communications, journalism, public
relations or similar.
* Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in communications, public
affairs, marketing role or similar.
* Excellent writing and editing skills.
* Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
* Creativity and enthusiasm; flexibility and adaptability.
* High professional standards.
* Ability to work in collaboration with others.
* Ability to work in pressurised environments.
* Discretion and confidentiality.
* Full drivers licence due to travel requirements.

_DESIRABLE:_

* Experience of working with designers and advertising agencies
* Experience of working with Irish print and broadcast media
* Experience of working or volunteering in the non-profit sector
* Familiarity with social issues and homelessness in Ireland

FURTHER INFORMATION

* This position is a two-year fixed term contract with the intention
to transition into permanent for the right candidate.
* The role will require participation in ad-hoc events and meetings
which occur in the evenings and on weekends. Travel outside of the
office is reimbursed according to our expense policy and a Time Off in
Lieu policy is also in place.
