VACANCY FOR LOCAL EMPLOYMENT SERVICE (LES) MEDIATOR

SDC Partnership is a Local Development organisation in South Dublin
County. We tackle poverty and social exclusion through development and
delivery of a range of projects. The Local Employment Service, funded
by the Department of Social Protection, is one of the services we
deliver.

The Local Employment Service provides a range of services to support
unemployed people (back) into employment or further education and
training. We are now looking for additional mediators to strengthen
our team. The ideal candidates will be based in South Dublin County
Partnership Area (Tallaght / Clondalkin / Lucan).

KEY FUNCTIONS

* To provide clients with a confidential, individual career path
planning, guidance and counselling service on a caseload basis
* Maintain the caseload management system as provided by the
Department of Social Protection.
* To work as an integrated member of the LES team and the SDC
Partnership

SKILLS REQUIRED

* To build a caseload of clients who are long-term unemployed
* To facilitate each unemployed person to develop an individualised
career path plan with the ultimate aim of getting the person a secure
job
* To ensure the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality
are maintained in the Mediator ? Client relationship
* To ensure client expectations are grounded in reality and confront
unrealistic expectations
* To maintain caseload records and to build a case study and general
statistical information
* To match accurately clients on file to incoming vacancy notices
from the LES employer contacts and Jobs Ireland vacancies list
* To assist clients prepare for job interviews and align past
experiences to job requirements
* To achieve the best employment / education or training outcome for
each client
* To liase and work with local employers to establish a realistic
picture of various job requirements to ensure accurate matching
* To work with difficult to place jobseekers
* To provide after-placement mediation support to clients in
progression or placed in jobs
* To both individually, and as part of the LES team, build well
grounded networks into SDC Partnership and employer systems
* To ensure that clients are aware that information held on them is
accessible to the DSP
* To keep up to date with developments in the labour market,
including new programmes, employment incentives, etc

EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate should ideally have a minimum of 3 years
experience in two or more of the following:

* Experience of working with unemployed adults in a vocational
training educational job placement or community setting;
* Counselling / Vocational Guidance Experience
* Experience of work placement in a statutory agency or community
based organisation.
* Experience in Probationary service
* Experience in Social Work
* Work Experience in the Voluntary trade union or community sector
in a management or leadership role

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

* A good standard of general education
* Evidence or relevant personal supervisor or leadership development
in career to date
* A formal qualification or study in area of guidance or counselling
* A relevant third level qualification is desirable

SALARY

* Depending on experience.
