Consultant doctor in interventional cardiology

An important university hospital in the south of Ireland requires a
Consultant in Cardiology with skills in interventional cardiology.
The service provides acute and elective cardiology for the region.
Located and based in a hospital in the South of Ireland the service
accepts referrals form nearby cities and counties. There are specific
service days which are provided in the cardiac Cath lab for
cardiologists based at 2 diferent hospitals. The units provides basic
and more advanced cardiac diagnostics in the form of ECG, telemetry,
treadmill testing, dobutamine stress echocardiography, basic and
advanced transthoracic echocardiography and a busy transoesophageal
service. The cardiac Cath lab provides diagnostic angiography, and
advanced intervention, including the provision of rotablation, and a
developing CTO service, and basic and advanced device implantation,
including CRT, and subcutaneous implantable cardioverter
defibrillators. The unit also offers some structural intervention, in
the form of a balloon aortic valvuloplasty, alcohol septal ablation,
and some peripheral intervention, including renal artery stenting.

1. ???????The hospital at present also provides acute, primary
intervention between the hours of **Apply on the website** and **Apply
on the website**, Monday to Friday, and is currently being reviewed
for potential provision of a broader service in this respect.
Additionally, there is a national cardiac review in process, which may
ultimately confer expanded cardiac catheter services, as part of
service delivery in the region.

2. ?????At present, there are six consultant cardiologists who
utilise the service at the hospital. There are 3.5 whole time
equivalents currently based on campus, three interventional
cardiologists, an invasive cardiologist, with a special interest in
transoesophageal imaging. There are two visiting cardiologists who
have one day per week operating privileges in the cardiac Cath lab.
The visiting cardiologists provide diagnostic angiography, with
Intervention overseen by the resident interventional cardiologists.

3. ??Acute future aspirations for the service locally would include
the development of more advanced cross-sectional cardiac imaging, and
this would take the form of ECG-gated CT scanning, for which there is
radiology expertise already present in the hospital, and cardiac MRI,
which would require some further capital investment. There is also
expertise present amongst the consultant staff for electrophysiology,
and this could potentially be a further service for local development
in the fullness of time.

The hospital has a well-developed and highly expert heart failure
nursing service, which is currently developing a community heart
failure outreach program, nurse-led and consultant supervised, with a
very successful outreach program established at one of the cities in
the area. Additionally, the unit is developing a nurse led cardiac
chest pain service, which will rationalise management of acute
coronary syndrome, in the region.
