LOCAL TRAINING INITIATIVE CO-ORDINATOR

JOB DESCRIPTION

This Local Training Initiative (L.T.I.) Programme in Horticulture
Skills aims to equip participants with the necessary skills and
aptitudes to obtain employment or progress to further education and
training. As part of the team the successful candidate will be
responsible for the overall coordination and delivery of this FETAC
Certified Funded Training Programme.

OUTLINE OF WORK:

To develop, co-ordinate and implement on a full-time basis for **Apply
on the website** weeks, a Local Training Initiative (LTI) Programme in
Horticulture. This full-time programme, delivered at the Bessborough
Centre, Blackrock, Cork, is based on a contract which is subject to
continuity of funding by Cork Education and Training Board (CETB). It
aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills required to
work in the Horticulture industry.

The ideal applicant will have an appropriate professional
qualification, together with a relevant work experience. They will
require excellent facilitation, communication and organisational
skills coupled with an ability to develop and implement training
modules on an individual basis. Prior experience of working with young
adults in educational or developmental contexts is required. An
understanding of horticulture would be desirable.

The programme leads to a Level 4 Major Award in Horticulture and
consists of modules including Plant Identification & Maintenance,
Fruit and Veg production, Plant Propagation, Tools and Equipment, Team
working, Work Practice, Plant propagation, Horticultural Science,
establishing Flowering Plants, Trees and Shrubs, Information
Technology, Customer Service, Inter-personal Development, Safety and
Health at Work.

RESPONSIBILITY

With the help of an Assistant Coordinator, the person appointed will
be expected to co-ordinate and supervise the work on the programme and
meet an agreed set of performance targets, within agreed budgets, by:

* Recruiting learners to the programme in collaboration with the
Department of Social Protection and CETB.
* Managing the design, delivery, evaluation and accreditation of
training modules, delivering some modules, and recruitment and
supervision of external tutors where necessary.
* Developing individual learning plans with learners, evaluating
learners? progress with regular group and individua! evaluations and
facilitating progression of learners to further training, education or
employment,
* Monitoring and evaluating learners attendance on a weekly basis
and maintaining individual attendance records.
* Completing monthly progress reports and submitting monthly
statistics and other reports, including completion reports at the end
of each programme, to Cork Education and Training Board
* Keeping up to date and complying with all Training Standards
Systems and regulations.
* Keeping funding records, developing ongoing work plans and
planning future programmes
* Providing supervision and performance monitoring of the Assistant
Co- ordinator
* Providing relevant ad-hoc training and workshop events for
internal and external participants should the need arise

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

* Previous Supervisory/Coordination Experience in a Further
Education, Training or Advocacy Environment

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

* Experience of working in personal development of young adults.
* A minimum of 2 years training experience
* Knowledge of FETAC qualifications and modules
* Knowledge of Training Standards Systems Candidates will be
expected to have a full Driving Licence.
