TEAM LEADER - RUA YOUTH JUSTICE PROGRAMME

JOB TITLE: Team Leader ? Rua Dublin 8

BACKGROUND TO THE ROLE

Solas Project, as part of its wider justice programme, has developed
Rua, targeting young people (**Apply on the website**+) involved in
serious levels of offending. These young people, identified by the
Gardai, are deemed unsuitable for existing Diversion Programmes or
have not successfully engaged with existing programmes. Rua has
operated in the Dublin 8 area for almost 5 years and is now being
expanded in line with the goals of the Juvenile Justice Strategy
**Apply on the website**. We recognise this work will be challenging
and at times difficult and are looking for a team leader who will be
committed, energetic and with the skills to further develop the
programme as well as building relationships with the target group and
their staff team. The staff team currently consists of a team leader
position and 3 youth work staff. The Rua Dublin 8 team work as part of
the wider Solas Project justice team and the team leader will report
to the Justice Programmes Manager.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:

_ESSENTIAL:_

* A proven track record as a team player with an ability to lead and
motivate both staff and volunteers. Leadership experience would be an
advantage.
* Extensive experience of working with ?at risk? young people
and an understanding of the challenges faced by young people living in
areas designated as disadvantaged.
* Experience of facilitating individual support work, outreach and
groups of young people.
* Passionate about the work of Solas Project and committed to its
vision and values.

_DESIRABLE_:

* An NSETS recognised professionally endorsed qualification in Youth
Work or Youth and Community Work plus 2 years full time experience of
working with young people at risk in a youth work setting in a paid
capacity
OR Have worked with young people for 4 years full time and have
experience of working with young people at risk in a youth work
setting in a paid capacity and have an equivalent professional Degree
level qualification within the Education/Social Sciences /Youth Work
or Community Work field.
* Evidence of an innovative approach to identify needs and develop
new ways to support young people.
* Clean driving licence and use of own car.
* Strong understanding of the criminal justice system.
* Experience in planning, delivery and evaluation of Youth Work
programmes including risk assessments.
* Experience of community development work, meaningful collaboration
and interagency working.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

_YOUTH JUSTICE WORK OVERSIGHT_

* Lead and oversee the smooth day to day running of the programme
including safe and competent delivery of Youth Justice based
interventions.
* Lead a team to directly deliver youth work programmes, including
both one to ones and group work.
* Directly deliver both one to one and group work with target group.
* Ensure effective engagement with the target group and the
development of trusting relationships with the young people and their
families.
* Support the team with their work including regular individual,
team meetings and hands on work as required.
* Oversee the completion and implementation of risk assessments and
case management plans.
* Ensure agreed targets are met and all reporting procedures are
completed competently and on time. This includes both internal and
external reports.
* Build good working relationships with all third-party stakeholders
including but not limited to relevant community organisations, An
Garda Siochana and the Project Committee.
* Plan for the growth of programmes, identifying any emerging issues
and design creative responses to them including ongoing reviewing of
their programmes to ensure we are keeping pace with best Irish and
international practice.
* Ensure health & safety measures are implemented and maintained.
* Ensure the Rua intervention model is implemented.
* Participating actively in the Justice team and the wider Solas
Project team, including attending team meetings/training, and
preparing written reports as required by management and funders

_MANAGING STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS_

* Hold regular team meetings and source suitable training for your
team as required.
* Provide regular supervision and manage performance of all direct
reports.
* Motivate and support their team to be creative, competent and
passionate in their work and develop a positive team dynamic.
* Review and maintain staff schedules in order to maximise their
time and outputs.
* Be part of the recruitment of new staff together with the
leadership team.
* Oversee management of volunteers and students within your team,
including allocating team members to act as supervisors/mentors and
managing any issues arising.
* Value the contribution of volunteers by integrating them into your
programme. Maintain regular communication with Volunteer Co-ordinator,
ensuring adequate volunteers in programmes, developing volunteer
opportunities and reporting on issues as required.

_FINANCE AND FUNDING_

* Plan programme activities within the given budget and manage the
spending on an ongoing basis.
* Ensure the financial controls laid down by Solas Project are
adhered to by the team and the resources allocated to their team are
utilised appropriately within the necessary timeframe.
* Write grant applications and produce reports for funders as
required in conjunction with the Justice Programmes Manager.

_GENERAL SOLAS PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES_

* Ensure Solas Project?s youth work approach is upheld (see
adjoining document).
* Be familiar with and abide by the project?s policies and
procedures, including child protection and health and safety
guidelines.
* Assist with the running of any of the other project?s programmes
or activities as required.
* Engage in training and development opportunities and actively
participate with the supervision process.
* Contribute to the strategic development of the organisation by
playing an active role in the wider team.
* Ensure that the values and ethos of the project are reflected in a
consistent manner in all activities.

LONG- TERM CONSISTENT INTERVENTION - Solas Project provides consistent
long-term intervention to high-risk young people beginning age 5 and

person moves from one programme to the next receiving continuous
support.

TARGET MOST IN NEED ? Solas Project targets and prioritises support
for those most in need across all of our programmes. This includes
working closely with schools, family support and other community

persistently targets and pursues young people on an ongoing basis, we
do not give up on young people. This includes engaging with young
people in their own environment through street work and detached youth
work.

one-to-one work with a young people and engage in them in group work.
Both elements are central to our work. Ensuring that they have a
relationship with a trusted adult and can engage positively with their
peers.

INTERAGENCY PARTNERSHIPS ? we strive to partner with and work
collaboratively with other agencies and services in the area in order
to offer the maximum support to young people.

RESTORATIVE PRACTICE - we use a restorative approach encouraging young
people to take responsibility for their actions.

young people and proactively build relationships with families for the
benefit of the young people.

TRAUMA INFORMED - we acknowledge the impact of trauma on the young
people in our community and working from a trauma informed approach we
build therapeutic relationships.

contributions of volunteers and the benefit for young people of
building relationships with a wide range of trusting adults from
