COMMUNITY AND SAFEGUARDING OFFICER

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Built in honour of Ireland?s patron saint, Saint Patrick?s
Cathedral serves as the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland as
well as being one of Ireland?s most popular visitor attractions. The
Cathedral is committed to fostering links with other institutions
delivering services and assistance to those in need within the city
and beyond.

The position of Community & Safeguarding Officer was introduced in
**Apply on the website**. We are now looking to recruit a new person
to lead the Cathedral?s mission within the community.

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Community Officer will work closely with the Dean, Administrator,
and Education Officer to develop and implement an integrated policy of
engagement with the wider community, including other charities,
denominations and community organisations.

A key aspect of their role will be the implementation of the
Church?s child protection policies, ?Safeguarding Trust?, to
which the Cathedral fully subscribes.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

The new Community Officer will have an excellent working relationship
with fellow colleagues and will look to develop and maintain positive
professional relationships with the Cathedral?s key partners. These
partners include the Cathedral schools, the Representative Church
Body, state agencies, and other key groups within local government and
the voluntary sector.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

STRATEGIC

The Community Officer will work with the Dean and Administrator to:

* Review and deliver the Cathedral?s community engagement strategy
* Promote, resource, and oversee the Cathedral?s outreach
initiatives
* Advise on developments within the community that might benefit
from the Cathedral?s support

ADMINISTRATIVE

The Community Officer will:

* Administer the implementation of the Church?s Safeguarding Trust
programme in the Cathedral protecting children and vulnerable adults
and will be responsible for ensuring that training, Garda vetting and
records are up to date
* Administer the Cathedral?s grant support programme

PASTORAL

The Community Officer will:

* Take an active interest and involvement with outreach and
interagency projects at a grassroots level in the area local to the
Cathedral
* Play an integral role in the Cathedral?s ministry of hospitality

MISSIONAL

The Community Officer will:

* Promote the Cathedral?s values of honesty, respect and tolerance
as reflected in the core tenets of Christian belief
* Look to develop networks for engaging young adults, students and
new community members
* Foster the spirit of engagement and outreach within the Cathedral
community

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate will ideally possess:

* A good working knowledge of the community and voluntary sector
* A third level education to degree level or equivalent, in relevant
areas
* A proven track record in project planning and delivery
* An ability to clearly understand the Cathedral?s mission and
align decisions and actions with this
* Strong knowledge and experience of managing highly sensitive
confidential information.
* An ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds
* Digital competency including a good working knowledge of the
Microsoft suite of programmes

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This position is permanent role with a probationary period of 6
months. The annual gross salary for the role will be discussed as part
of the interview process. Flexibility regarding working times will be
required.

The Cathedral Office is based in Dublin 8. A complete list of all the

Satisfactory Garda Vetting will be required in order to qualify for
this role
