COMMUNITY HELPERS COORDINATOR

A vacancy has arisen for a PART-TIME (**APPLY ON THE WEBSITE** HRS)
POSITION AS A COMMUNITY HELPERS COORDINATOR in South Dublin County
Partnership. South Dublin County Partnership works with people who are
socially excluded or are at risk of becoming so and promotes social
cohesion and labour market participation with a focus on the most
disadvantaged neighbourhoods. This is achieved through a range of

Childhood Services, Enterprise Support and Community and Environmental
Programmes. South Dublin County Partnership is an equal opportunities

WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY HELPERS PROJECT?

Objective: To support parents in their parenting capacity by assisting
with practical supports in the home in order to alleviate some
pressure and enable them to meet their children?s fundamental needs.

South Dublin County has a history of strong collaborative work among
services and organisations who work with children, young people and
families. There are a range of services that provide targeted
intensive family support for the most vulnerable families, but little
services available to families who have been doing well and suddenly
encounter experience of ill health within their family, trauma or a
new worry. In those times, practical support can sometimes help
greatly, helping the parent feel like they are not on their own with
the challenge they face, and make life a little easier.

Community Helpers is a new and unique service. We plan to recruit and
train volunteers who are usually parents themselves to visit families
at home who are going through a difficult time in their lives.
Community Helpers will initially offer cleaning and organisational
support and following a review in 6 months, some additional practical
supports may be added to the service. Community Helpers will initially
cover the West Tallaght and Balgaddy areas and respond to the need of
families already participating in a Meitheal (national practice model
that offers supports and services to children and their families).
Community Helpers is an initiative conceived by members of the
Protected & Safe From Harm sub group of South Dublin CYPSC and is
managed by South Dublin County Partnership and?funded through SICAP.
