ROLE:

The role of the project worker, under the direction of the Project
Coordinator, will be to work with a selected group of young people
being supported to remain in school. This service is a school-based
programme that operates at both primary and post primary levels. The
focus of this service is to support and work closely with students who
would, for a number of factors, be at risk of early school leaving.
The core principals of School Completion Programme are to improve
Attendance, Participation and Retention. As part of the SCP team s/he
will offer support in-school, after-school, out-of-school and holiday
provision. The ideal candidate should have the following:

* Desirably a level 7 Qualification in one of the following:
education/teaching, youth/community work, social care/science,
occupational therapy or a related discipline.
* Minimum of two years post graduate paid work in provision of
services for children/young people at risk.
* A thorough knowledge of the Irish education system and ability to
plan, implement and evaluate educational, developmental and
recreational programmes for individuals and groups of students in
primary and post primary education.
* Experience of working with children and young people in a
mentoring capacity; one to one,and in group settings.
* Skills and talents that are transferrable to developing programmes
that will engage students at risk of early school leaving.
* Experience of facilitating evidence-based/informed programmes for
children and young people is desirable.
* Excellent communication planning, organisational, networking and
report writing skills.
* Tusla Children First Certification is a pre-requisite.
* A full, clean driving license and own transport essential.

Specifically, the project worker will:

WORKING WITH CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE

* Work on a one to one or small group basis with pupils who have been
identified as being at risk of leaving school early.
* Co-ordinate a structured caring approach within the schools whilst
complementing existing structures.
* Provide support for both the young person while collaborating with
other stakeholders
* Develop personalised programmes for targeted young people who are
experiencing ongoing behaviour difficulties in school and are at risk
of/on suspension.
* The implementation of evidenced based supports
* Foster links between students, parents and school in conjunction
with Home School Liaison.
* Develop self/esteem/interpersonal skills/behaviour programmes to
targeted young people.
* Access appropriate resources/agencies.

PLANNING & REPORTING

* To assist in the implementation of the Cabinteely Area SCP project
as outlined in the **Apply on the website** Retention Plan submitted
to the Tusla, Child and Family Agency.
* To further the aims of the Cabinteely Area SCP by participating in
the development/delivery of child centred educational and personal
development programmes which stimulate the interest and participation
of young people between the ages of 4 and **Apply on the website**
years with a view to tacking early school leaving.
* To work within the Schools and liaise with the staff of schools,
voluntary and statutory agencies as assigned by the Project Manager
and outlined in the programme of work.
* To undertake whatever training and attend whatever meetings which
might be considered appropriate by the Project Manager.
* To furnish whatever reports/accounts required.
* Ensure records are kept and maintained in an effective and
professional manner adhering to guidelines and legislation.
* Be involved in the planning, implementing and evaluating
activities during holiday times.

NETWORKING & COMMUNICATION

* Be requested to attend various committee meetings from time to
time.
* Provide the Project Coordinator with regular progress reports
which will then be reported to the Management Committee.
* To report on a daily basis to the project Coordinator or other
designated officer.
* Be required to attend staff meetings on a weekly basis.
* Work as a team member while also have the ability to work on
his/her own initiative .
* Ensure communication and integration with relevant agencies to
ensure the development of strong working links.
* Attend and work the days and hours at the schools or centres as
the Management Group may direct which will include evening work and
may include weekend work from time to time and which will be subject
to review. A DEGREE OF FLEXIBILITY IS REQUIRED. TIME OFF WILL BE GIVEN
IN LIEU OF SANCTIONED OVERTIME WORKED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE BOARD
OF MANAGEMENT.
* Perform such other duties appropriate to the post as may be
assigned to him/her by the Coordinator in conjunction with the
Management Committee.
* Positively promote the work of Cabinteely Area SCP.
