POST: PROJECT WORKER WITH RESPONSIBILITY FOR STUDENT SUPPORT AND
DELIVERY OF PROGRAMMES FOR SCHOOL COMPLETION PROGRAMME (SCP) FINGLAS
C.

The School Completion Programme (SCP) is a TUSLA initiative that aims
to have a positive impact on levels of pupil retention in primary and
second level schools and on the number of pupils who successfully
complete the Senior Cycle, or equivalent.

The School Completion Programme (SCP) together with school personnel,
identifies individual young people of school-going age, both in and
out of school, and arranges supports to address inequalities in
education access, participation and outcomes. The primary objective of
this position is to engage with a target group of young people, who
have been identified as being at risk of early school-leaving. The
project worker?s role is to enable them to develop relevant skills,
make helpful choices and set realistic goals which support them in
engaging fully in school life, their education and thereby maximising
their potential.

PURPOSE OF THE POST:

To assist target students by providing appropriate information,
resources and programmes, ensuring they are offered relevant
additional help and support throughout their time in school.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* To work within the TUSLA national guidelines for the protection and
welfare of Children.
* To ensure you observe School Completion and Secondary School
policies as communicated to you.
* To recognise your own limitations and work within them, seeking
further support and guidance as necessary.
* To establish and maintain regular contact with your targeted
students though meetings and programmes.
* To identify when a student may be experiencing difficulties and
inform school care team - SCP Coordinator/ Principal/ Home School
Teacher as appropriate.
* Work closely with school management and HSCL in providing support
to target students
* To engage the targeted students and encourage their inclusion in
Lunch Homework/Afterschool/ Breakfast Clubs.
* To supervise Homework Club and give information to SCP Coordinator
regarding hours worked by supervisors and numbers attending etc.
* To familiarise yourself with potential further sources of help and
refer students on as appropriate.
* To contribute to your immediate team in school, (Care Team
Committees) and the wider team, including School and SCP staff,
ensuring good communication and co-operation.
* Attend and participate in individual and group supervision in SCP
* To engage in recommended training

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

* A Third Level Qualification in Youth work, Social Care, Education,
Counselling, Therapy or related discipline and work experience
delivering supports to young people.

DESIRABLE:

* Experience working with and supporting the issues of young people,
especially of those in disadvantaged socio-economic areas, those with
behavioural issues/ anti-social behaviour.
* Work experience in a related field.
* A genuine understanding and desire to work with young people
* Excellent communication skills.
* Counselling Skills

CONDITIONS AND SALARY

* Based in St. Vincent?s Secondary School, Glasnevin, Dublin

* Monday , Tuesday , Thursdays with team meetings/supervision every
Monday morning in St. Malachys before working in St. Vincent?s.
* Full Garda clearance and Child Protection training essential.

* There will be a probation period of 3 months.

* Annual salary is Point 1 of the Youthreach/Youth workers Salary
(Pro-rata).
