OVERVIEW OF ORGANISATION

The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre (GKCSC) is based in Drogheda
County Louth, and supports those living with cancer, their families
and those who care for them. The Centre offers holistic care,
complimentary therapies, education and psychological support for those
living with cancer. The Centre is open to people on the island of
Ireland. All therapies and supports are provided free of charge.

The mission of the Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre is to create a
safe and holistic environment. To preserve the dignity and privacy of
the person at all times. To provide counselling, information,
practical and psychological support for people affected by cancer and
those who care for them.

JOB PURPOSE: -

The Nurse will provide direct support and information to individuals
living with a cancer diagnosis and their families. The Nurse will
support the clients of the centre by facilitating the day to day
running of the centre and its services. The Nurse will also assist the
Cancer Nurse Manager in the planning and coordination of client
services. The Nurse will be expected to maintain productive
professional relationships with hospitals, medical and community

The Nurse will contribute ideas and feedback regarding programme
development and evaluation. The Nurse will also contribute to the
promotion and continuous development of the services, raising the
charity profile within the hospitals, the local community and the
North East Region. The ethos of the Centre will be at the forefront of
the role ensuring that a sanctuary of reflection, retreat and recovery
is maintained in keeping with the Mission of the Centre at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct Work with Clients

* Provision of relevant information to clients.
* Act as group facilitator for support and networking for
individuals affected by cancer. This includes the facilitation of
groups and any follow up that may be necessary.
* Plan, organise, coordinate and collaborate with professional
colleagues to deliver cancer related services, programmes and classes
suitable to the needs of people affected by cancer.
* Monitor client progress and discuss supports and services with the
Cancer Nurse Manager.
* Record and input all relevant client data onto the designated IT
system and where relevant, other hand written documentation in a
timely manner. Collate Records of Services Provided to clients and
complete associated analysis.

Volunteer Administration & Organisation

* Support volunteers assigned to the centre and in so doing ensure
that client services operate efficiently and effectively within
designated timeframes.
* Provision of relevant training to volunteers for working in the
Centre.
* Plan and Organize volunteer support meetings.
* Promote good practice and adherence to standards and policies
among the volunteers

Activities Support & Outreach

* Contribute to the development of the Charity policies and
procedures.
* To recognise, respect and promote the different roles and
diversity of the individuals within the team.
* Participate in the formal and informal evaluation of programmes
* Contribute to volunteer induction training and programme
development as required.

General

* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* To maintain confidentiality at all times
* Commitment and willingness to participate in team working.
* Ensure continuous professional development by participating in
educational opportunities; reading professional publications;
maintaining personal networks; participating in professional
organizations.
* Perform general tasks and other duties as assigned. Attend
meetings and various events as required.
* Take part in an annual performance appraisal with the Cancer Nurse
Manager.
* Be computer literate (Microsoft Office Certification)
* Your duties may vary depending on the operational requirements of
the Centre on any given day.

Developmental:

* Willing to undertake training pertinent to the role e.g. Strides
for Life, Pinc & Steel programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

* Registered General Nurse with five to seven years? post
registration experience.
* Demonstrable experience of working with people with a cancer
diagnosis (at least 3 years)
* Be on the active register with Nursing and Midwifery Board Ireland
(NMBI) and act in accordance with the NMBI Code of professional
conduct.

Special Knowledge & Skills:

* A sound understanding of the needs of those with a cancer diagnosis
and their families and the challenges they face at all stages of the
cancer journey.
* Experience of facilitating support groups
* Knowledge and aptitude working with Microsoft Office.

Desirable

* Qualification in cancer nursing
