DETAILS OF ORGANISATION AND PROJECT

ABOUT AMACH! LGBT GALWAY
We?aim to reflect equally the diversity within the lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender community by encouraging positive
participation from the community. We actively advocate to achieve a
solid and safe support structure for the LGBT+ community in Galway. We
aim to provide awareness, educational and training events and
workshops, and endeavour to support and promote a socially inclusive
society.

COMHIONANNAS: The Galway LGBTI+ Community Achieving Equality
Development of LGBT+ Community Supports for Galway city, county and
region

COMHIONANNAS (The Galway LGBTI+ Community Achieving Equality],
reflects the mission of the National LGBTI+ Inclusion Strategy **Apply
on the website** and the aim of this funding stream, and will promote
inclusion, protect rights and improve quality of life and wellbeing
for members of the LGBTI+ community in Galway, enabling them to
participate fully in Ireland's social, economic, cultural, and
political life.
The Galway LGBTI+ Community Project will establish a community
development approach to working with the LGBTI+ community and their
families. The project will include:

THE PROMOTION OF INCLUSION BY:

* Responding to the needs as identified by the LGBT+ community and
their families, including providing support for physical, mental,
emotional and sexual health, as well as with other matters that will
be identified as important by the community.
* Engaging in decision-making structures that affect the lives of
the LGBTI+ community, including the Galway LGBTI+ Interagency Group,
the Joint Policing Committee, the Local Community Development
Committee, and others.

THE PROTECTION OF RIGHTS BY:

* Building cultural competence amongst service providers,
particularly health service providers
* Engaging with the campaign for the implementation of the Public
Sector Duty, including by actively engaging with the Civil Society
Panel established in Galway City
* Initiating and engaging in campaigns that seek to promote the
rights of the LGBTI+ community, with the Chamber of Commerce and
others

IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE AND WELLBEING OF THE COMMUNITY BY
PROVIDING A RANGE OF PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OPPORTUNITIES AND
SUPPORTS, INCLUDING:

* Weekly drop-in sessions
* Regular mental, emotional, physical, and sexual health awareness
workshops
* A range of physical and mental health workshops
* Training session for volunteers
* Supporting the provision of the Weekly Helpline
* Producing online and printed information sheets in the various
areas
* Monthly newsletters
* Supporting the establishment of new support groups and networks in
areas such as an Older Persons Network, and Ethnic Minority Network,
etc.
* Roll out of public recognition marker, denoting LGBT+ friendly
service

In line with the Amach! track record, the project will place a
particular emphasis on engaging those affected by multiple experiences
of discrimination placing them at an even increased risk of
marginalisation, including Travellers, Roma, migrant communities,
disabled people and people in rural areas.

Key to the project will be the establishment of a Resource Centre that
will facilitate the project and the employment of a Project Team,
including a Project Co-ordinator and a Communications and
Administration Worker.

The Co-ordinator will work from a community development perspective
and ensure that the project responds to the existing, new and emerging
needs of the community, as well as being responsible for the overall
implementation of the project, management of other staff, ensuring
compliance and representing the organisation.

The Co-ordinator will work with the Communications and Administration
Worker to oversee the financial management of the project, organise
activities, and promote the work of the project widely across the city
and county. The Communications and Administration Worker will report
to the Project Co-ordinator and board of Amach! LGBT+ Galway.

The Team will be tasked with seeking additional sources of funding for
the project

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

This post holder will report to the board of Amach! LGBT+ Galway and
COMHIONANNAS Project Steering Committee

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ADMINISTRATION

* Ensure the efficient day to day administration of area of
responsibility
* Ensure deadlines are met and that service levels are maintained
* Ensure that archives and records are accurate and readily
available
* Maintain confidentiality of documentation, records, etc.
* Generate and submit monthly reports to the COMHIONANNAS Project
Steering Committee
* Organise and attend Meetings as required

SUPERVISION OF STAFF

* Supervise and ensure the well-being of staff within own remit
* Manage the performance of staff
* Co-operate and work in harmony with other teams

COMHIONANNAS PROJECT SPECIFIC DUTIES

* Coordinate, support and promote activities for the LGBT+ community
in Galway City.
* Lead out on Engagement and consultation with the LGBT+ community.
* Coordinate the financial management of the activities as directed
by the COMHIONANNAS Steering committee Project coordinator.
* Provide, regular progress reports to the COMHIONANNAS Project
Steering Committee.
* Work with and support AMACH! to develop a sustainability strategy.
* Support the participation of the LGBT+ community in COMHIONANNAS
and all AMACH LGBT+ Galway initiatives,
* Coordinate, support and work with the COMHIONANNAS Project
Steering Committee in the development of the programme of work for the
yearlong project

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

* At least 3 years working within Community Development sector
* Project Management experience, including experience managing paid
staff and volunteers
* Relevant third level qualification.

* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Ability to network effectively between different organisations.
* Ability to advise, inform, motivate and support individuals and
organisations.

part of a team and use initiative to work on your own.
* A willingness to work alongside volunteers.
* Enthusiasm and drive, friendliness and approachability.
