Head of Transport Investment and Public Transport Policy - Department
of Transport The Department of Transport has responsibility for
delivery of an accessible, efficient, safe and sustainable transport
system that supports communities, households and businesses. The
Department?s responsibilities cover all modes of transport: active
travel, public transport, private vehicle and internationally by road,
rail, air and sea. The Departments investment programme contains
projects which will transform the Irish Transport network and will
play a key role in realising the ambition of the National Planning
framework and delivering many of its National Strategic Outcomes.

The National Development Plan **Apply on the website** included a

Transport. A significant portion, ?8.6bn is designed to deliver
Public Transport Investment projects which will support the NPF
National Strategic Outcomes of Compact Growth, Sustainable Mobility
and Transition to a Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Society.
Reporting to the Secretary General, the Head of Transport Investment
and Public Transport Policy will have responsibility for leading and
collaborating across Government Departments, Transport State Agencies,
Transport State Companies and Local Authorities on significant
programmes of investment in active travel infrastructure, public
transport infrastructure and roads.

S/he will lead on the development and implementation of policy in
these areas and will contribute to broader Public Policy and Programme
for Government initiatives in areas such as sustainable infrastructure
investment, national spatial planning, Intelligent Transport Systems
and climate change. This role also involves oversight responsibilities
for Transport Agencies in relation to distribution of Exchequer
funding and their delivery of the Government?s sustainable transport
investment plans under the National Development Plan and Project

The successful candidate will have:
? a proven track record of achievement at senior management level in
a complex and challenging environment in either the public or private
sector;
? proven ability to think strategically in the analysis, development
and implementation of policy actions;
? the capacity to understand the governance, financial and business
issues within the Transport State Companies;
? a well developed range of leadership, communication and
interpersonal skills appropriate to the demands of the post including
strong people management, influencing, negotiation and communication
skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships
within a complex stakeholder environment;
? a strong results focus and the ability to achieve results on the
basis of cross-divisional and cross-organisational working;
? the ability to work effectively with the political system and to
represent the Department credibly in all relevant fora. This is a Top
