TITLE OF POST: PROJECT COORDINATOR

Suircan Environmental is a Clonmel based environmental group formed in

the River Suir in and around the town for the mutual benefit of the
river and the people of the area whose lives are immeasurably enriched
by its beauty and opportunities for leisure, peace and tranquillity.

Suircan is?currently embarking upon an exciting research project
funded by the South Tipperary Development Company to look at the
health of the river using genetic markers for a number of threatened
species. The project will be led by Bio-ID, an environmental
consultancy with specialist expertise in the area of genetic analysis.
One strand of the project will consist of the collection of a range of
samples of water from different locations along the River Suir to be
analysed for traces of three endangered species of aquatic life,
crayfish ? and to establish a statistical benchmark for the prevalence
of these species in the river. The other strand of the project will be
raising awareness in the community about the project and wider issues
of river management.

POSITION: PROJECT COORDINATOR

We are looking for a Project Coordinator to undertake the following
tasks:

* To coordinate and monitor all activities relating to the water
sampling strand to ensure that training, sampling, analyses are
delivered in a timely fashion and of the required quality. This will
involve the recruitment and management of the volunteers, namely, the
citizen scientists who will be collecting the samples.
* To liaise with the partners involved in the project, including
relevant local and statutory agencies, Primary Schools, community
groups, and the project lead (Bio-ID). The Project Coordinator will be
involved in organising information sessions for a specified number of
Primary Schools.
* To ensure that media outputs by Bio-ID are disseminated to the
various stakeholders, social media and press and assist in the
coordination of the final publication launch.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

* Liaising with stakeholders and statutory agencies
* Coordination of school element and liaison with trainer
(contact/schedule/follow up)
* Coordinate citizen scientists (the volunteers) training:
scheduling, information dissemination, keep records of attendance and
participation
* Liaison with citizen scientists: identify, recruit and communicate
with volunteers
* Monitor sampling uptake and logistics (location, date, sampler)
* Liaise with eDNA laboratory researchers regarding sampling
locations, delivery, timeline and equipment)
* Coordinate media output with BioID
* Travel to sampling locations and laboratory as required.
* Keep records and ensure information is available for reporting

TIMEFRAME

It is proposed to recruit a coordinator as soon as possible with a
view to reading into the role and begin work during the month of
April; school workshops to take place from May onwards; citizen
science training from Early June with water sampling to begin in late
June and finish in mid-September. Lab analysis and report writing will
ensue to be completed by early November with a provisional launch date
for the publication of mid-November.

ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES

Essential skills will be in the areas of project management,
communication and timely coordination.
Desirable but not essential skills would include a science background.
Additional funding is available for the Coordinator to deliver some of
the teaching element of the project if consistent with the
candidate?s skills.

CONDITIONS:

* This is a flexible freelance contract. Candidate for the post will
need to have sole trader status.
