_The Saint John of God Research Foundation clg is dedicated to
providing a research infrastructure and developing a culture of
inquiry across the Saint John of God Hospitaller Services Group. Our
mission is to support the Hospitaller Services Group in achieving a
service informed by research which will identify, respond to and
support the needs of all individuals in the manner of Saint John of
God. The Research Foundation funds research into mental health,
intellectual disability and old age. The Company also supports
research throughout Saint John of God Services through its Research
Department and Library & Information Services. We advocate for the
men, women and children who use our services, we share research
findings and we facilitate professional training through our annual
conferences and seminar series._

RESEARCH ASSISTANT

(FIXED TERM CONTRACT **APPLY ON THE WEBSITE** MONTHS)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The successful candidate will work as part of a research team. The
project is titled: IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE OUTCOMES IN A DEMENTIA
SPECIFIC CARE HOME USING A SOCIAL MODEL OF CARE; MOVING FROM LARGE
INSTITUTIONAL STYLE UNITS TO SMALL HOMELIKE ENVIRONMENTS. The
successful candidate will be employed by the Saint John of God
Research Foundation and will be based in St Joseph?s Shankill. The
researcher will work under the supervision of Ms Norma Sheehan and Ms
Siobhan Grant.

DUTIES:

* Providing research support (mainly qualitative methods and
literature review)
* Liaising with, establishing and maintaining connections with
various healthcare Professionals and other relevant stakeholders
* Undertaking field data collection via conducting interviews
* Processing and analysing data using the qualitative paradigm and
relevant software (e.g NVivo)
* Writing publications for peer reviewed journals under the
direction of the PI and Research Team
* Presenting at national and international conferences (if required)
* Participating in team meetings
* Coordinating and preparing research reports
* Undertake any other project related activities as required.

_QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:_

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Undergraduate Degree in an applied Health & Social Science
discipline such as Psychology, Public Health, Health Promotion, Social
Work
* Good experience and understanding of conducting research studies
including writing ethics applications
* Strong track record of qualitative research, analytical and
writing skills, including accessing information quickly and
strategically
* Excellent communication skills, in particular, report writing,
review writing and presentation skills
* Attention to detail and strong organisational skills
* Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
* Evidence of the ability to work independently and collaboratively
within a small, dynamic team

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

* Master?s Degree in a Health or Social Science discipline such as
(Health/Applied) Psychology, Public Health, Social Work
* Experience working with clinical populations/vulnerable groups
* Knowledge of and interest in dementia research
* Experience of presenting at academic meetings and/or publishing in
peer reviewed journals
