COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER

Age Action is Ireland?s leading advocacy organisation for older
people. Age Action works to ensure that older people?s voices are
heard at the highest level of Government and that the lived experience
of older people informs policy responses to their needs.

THE ROLE

Age Action values a strong work ethic and a dedication to bringing
about real and meaningful societal change. The Advocacy and
Communications team is central to informing and influencing that
change. Reporting to the Head of Advocacy and Communications, the
Communications Officer is part of a team made up of a Senior Public
Affairs and Policy Officer, a Policy Stakeholder Engagement Officer
and the Information Service. The successful candidate will be
contributing to the development and implementation of Age Action?s
Advocacy and Communications strategy to inform and influence public
policy and dialogue on ageing.

The successful candidate will be supporting the successful roll out of
the brand and website refresh that is underway. The person will be
responsible for generating awareness of Age Action?s work through
effective communications and public engagement activities and the
dissemination of information to public representatives, the media and
the general public.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS

* Assist the Advocacy and Communications team in the development and
implementation of a public affairs strategy aimed at influencing Age
Action?s key decision-makers
* Support the drafting and publication of influencing materials such
as parliamentary briefings, blogs, speeches and parliamentary
questions to help engage policy maker audiences effectively
* Pro-actively identify issues/debates/events of relevance to the
work of Age Action
* Build and maintain effective working relationships with external
stakeholders and collaborate with internal colleagues to maximise the
development of effective public affairs messaging in support of Age
Action?s Strategic Plan
* Attend events and meetings on behalf of Age Action, contributing
appropriately and reporting back
* Contribute to the development of the communications, public
awareness and advocacy tools of Age Action.

BRAND MANAGEMENT

* Support colleagues across Age Action to develop and manage the
content of publications from initial concept through to production and
distribution.
* Support other staff in the development of Age Action?s core
communications message to external agencies
* Develop and maintain Age Action?s online presence via the
website and various social media platforms.
* Monitor and evaluate all communications activity, reporting
evidence of impact and making recommendations for future work
* Manage events that involve the celebration and/or promotion of the
work of Age Action
* Contribute to an internal Age Action approach towards coherent
advocacy across all functions.

MEDIA RELATIONS

* Develop and maintain strong relationships with broadcast and print
media, in order to raise awareness of issues related to ageing and Age
Action?s profile
* Liaise with the media, draft and issue press releases as required
* Monitor and assess media coverage including updating media
databases and conducting associated research
* Undertake such other duties as might be reasonably assigned from
time to time in consultation with your Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Third Level qualification in communications, journalism, marketing
or public relations.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

* At least 4 years experience in communications, PR or journalism
with successful track record relevant to the post
* Demonstrated commitment to human rights and equality
* Demonstrated experience in public policy advocacy including
preparing briefing papers and submissions
* Proven ability to develop and implement communications strategies
across multiple projects with tight deadlines
* Proven ability operate at a strategic and operational level and
prioritise work programmes
* Have a keen knowledge of the national media landscape including
demonstrable experience in dealing with the media and managing media
queries, both traditional and new, in an effective manner
* Proven knowledge of marketing and communications principles,
guidelines and best working practices
* Demonstrable experience in drafting, editing and proof-reading
material to a publishable standard for diverse audiences
* Proven ability to effectively organise and manage multiple
responsibilities
* Excellent IT skills and experience of creating digital content
* Excellent writing and research skills.

SKILLS DESIRED:

* Knowledge of the Irish political landscape
* Experience of running effective campaigns
* Strong written, verbal, problem-solving and listening skills.

LOCATION: Dublin/Remote
CONTRACT: Permanent, Full Time
