COMMUNITY SPONSORSHIP DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

INTRODUCTION:

The Irish Refugee Council is seeking a qualified candidate to develop
the organisation?s Community Sponsorship programme.

The post involves supporting communities to sponsor refugees to live
in their community. The successful candidate will be an excellent all
round communicator with experience of community engagement, will have
a background and experience of supporting refugees or people seeking
protection and understand Irish housing and welfare policy. They will
also have excellent organisational skills and experience of training
different stakeholders.

This post is supported by the Irish Refugee Protection Programme, a
programme of the Department of Department of Children, Equality,
Disabled, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY).

BACKGROUND:

Community Sponsorship is a Government sponsored initiative under the
Irish Refugee Protection Programme of DCEDIY. The programme is part of
the Irish Government?s commitment to resettle Syrian families who
have fled Syria due to the war and have been living in a refugee camps
in Lebanon and Jordan. The initiative involves an Irish community
committing to support and source housing for a refugee family for a
period of 2 years. The Irish Refugee Council are already working with

of the sponsorship process.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The successful applicant will, supported by the Refugee Council?s
Integration Projects Manager, support, train and guide communities in
the sponsorship process. This includes:

* Introduce community sponsorship to interested communities in the
counties of Dublin, Leitrim, Sligo, Cavan, Donegal and Monaghan
* Assist communities in the application process to become an
official sponsorship group.
* Assisting and guiding communities in completing the application
forms. Plus also Garda vetting, child protection, selection of
housing, settlement and funding plans.
* Train communities in the support that they are expected to deliver
to refugees. Including rights and entitlements, cultural competencies,
navigating social and other services.
* Build and maintain constructive working relationships with a wide
variety of stakeholders. This includes: business, local government,
State bodies and mainstream services to support communities with any
needs the refugee may have.
* Provide ongoing support to communities during the sponsorship
process.
* Assist in the resolution of any issues or dispute that may arise
in the sponsorship process.
* Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the programme.
* Build capacity of other bodies to be Regional Support
Organisations (RSOs).
* Participate and contribute to any meetings, information or
training workshops, reports, evaluations and networking activities as
may be reasonably requested by the Grantor and contribute to the
development of a National Forum for RSOs.
* Support research and learning from other jurisdictions including
participating and input into a transnational European Union project on
community sponsorship.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

* Excellent communications skills with demonstrable experience of
verbal and written communication with a wide variety of stakeholders.
* Two years (or relevant) experience of providing community
supported projects and a community development experience.
* Experience of preparing and delivering training.
* Social Science Degree or equivalent third level degree.
* Excellent IT skills including knowledge and use of Word, Excel and
case management tools.
* Driver licence.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Flexible, innovative and adaptable.
* Self-starter with ability to work on own initiative.
