JOB DESCRIPTION

PERSONAL ASSISTANT (PA) TO OUTREACH CLIENT

SCOPE OF THE POSITION

The Anne Sullivan Centre is looking to recruit a _Personal Assistant_
to work as part of their Outreach service. In this Personal Assistant
role, you would be supporting a Client who is deafblind (with some
residual vision) with many aspects of daily independent living, both
within and outside of their own home, as such companionship is a key
aspect of the role. The position is South Dublin based, for **Apply on
the website** hours per week. (Days/hours are negotiable, however an
element of flexibility is required).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

* Going shopping with Client for food items on a regular basis and on
occasions, for other items
* Making and attending with Client, medical/dental/optical
appointments and following up on both acquiring medication and
prescription administration
* Managing the regularity and scheduling of these
medical/dental/optical appointments and booking an ISL interpreter in
advance, for same
* Basic diary management and planning, anticipating and organising,
in visual form, activities and actions that will be followed up on
* Understanding, interpreting and processing post/bills/written
communication and assisting Client with any follow up communication or
action that may be required via post, phone, other communication, on
their behalf
* Accessing and understanding information on the Deaf community and
encouraging participation in suitable events and activities (e.g. Arts
and Crafts classes)
* Driving Client to and from English classes or DVI Cabra events
(e.g. social events)
* Personal care (e.g. making and attending hair appointments with
Client)
* Attending Mass in Parish church and also attending DVI Cabra Deaf
community Mass with Client
* Participating in exercise, walking and swimming with Client
* Encouraging interactive activities/pastimes within the home (e.g.
Board games, Playing Cards)
* Companionship in carrying out these tasks
* Undertaking household duties on a regular basis around the
Client?s home (e.g. hoovering, changing bedclothes)
* Carrying out basic household maintenance tasks as required (e.g.
purchasing/changing light bulb/batteries in smoke alarm)

CURRENT COVID SITUATION_

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* QQI Level 5 in Health Care or equivalent
* A minimum of one years? experience in a similar role
* QQ1 Level 3 in Sign Language
* Good level of computer literacy (Microsoft Office, emails,
navigating websites, online shopping)
* Respect for confidentiality and privacy at all times
* Available to work occasional evenings/weekends when need arises
* Flexible individual with caring and empathetic manner
* Full, clean Driver?s Licence

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

* Experience of tactile sign language
* An appreciation of Disability and the Independent living
philosophy
