Underwriting Governance Specialist
UNDERWRITING GOVERNANCE SPECIALIST - EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA (EEA)

PURPOSE

To contribute to the development and management of underwriting
quality and governance processes for a specific area of responsibility
in order to ensure that EEA business operates in compliance with
established rules and frameworks.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Reporting to the Underwriting Governance Manager, you will provide
assurance that the underwriting business operates effectively, and in
accordance with agreed rules and frameworks. This includes the
provision of risk based assessment; identification and monitoring and
specific job tasks for area of responsibility include:

* Supports the implementation of the strategy for EEA business in
line with overall Ireland Underwriting strategy.
* With local knowledge and expertise, supports effective liaison
between Market Facing and Technical Underwriting (e.g. assisting
referral dialogue), where appropriate
* Participate in reviews, where appropriate.
* Supports elements of delivery of the Underwriting Assurance Plan
process.
* Contributes to the on-going development, implementation and
maintenance of governance tools and quality control peer review
processes (including The Zurich Way, and The Assurance Framework),
where appropriate.
* Handles a range of analysis and advice to support the development
of effective local and central governance processes and practices.
* Contributes to the development of business effectiveness through
monitoring of activity and making recommendation for change/remedial
action (e.g. correct use of rating tools, and delegation and
maintenance of underwriting authorities).
* Supports analysis activity with respect to underwriting quality
outcomes.
* Contributes to / assists with business compliance with regulatory
compliance (including Zurich Risk Policy).
* Proactively supports development of self and others.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Technical Underwriting Reviews, other Assurance Plan activities,
local review and quality assurance activities are completed within
agreed parameters (time, quality, costs).
* Data quality is maintained to agreed standards.
* Accurate and timely reports on agreed business activity are
provided.
* Areas for improvement are identified, with actions tracked and
monitored through to resolution, demonstrating opportunities are
maximized with respect to embedding best practice.
* Recognised as a provider of value-add activity by business
stakeholders.

BUSINESS ACCOUNTABILITIES

* Review and analyse project performance using standard reporting
tools and highlight discrepancies against plan.
* Identify and comply with the main principles relevant to legal and
regulatory controls that govern standard work practices.
* Collect data from well-established sources and analysis, provide
recommendations and commentary to facilitate underwriting
decision-making.
* Monitor underwriting business processes in order to identify
opportunities for improvement.
* Provide detailed procedural advice to internal clients to ensure
that internal standards are adhered to.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTABILITIES

* Educate team members and business partners on area of technical
expertise.
* Provide guidance and support for team members.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

* Bachelors Degree or equivalent is preferred
* Insurance qualification or other relevant post graduate
qualification preferred
* Multi line experience - Commercial and Retail
* Experience working internationally would be an advantage

* Possesses a high level of knowledge of product and industry
* Highly numerate and analytical thinker
* Excellent negotiation and communication skills
* Ability to resolve conflict within a complex stakeholder group
* Ability to positively resolve customer complaints

* Astuteness and commercially aware
* Strong business acumen and understanding of insurance MI &
financial data
* Highly discrete with confidential information
* Able to present information and arguments in a clear and
