The Society currently provides education supports to patients before
they commence treatment for chemotherapy. As part of our strategy, we
want to expand and enhance the educational and patient supports which
we offer. The educational supports developed will help to reduce the
burden of cancer, supporting improved outcomes and quality of life for
all people affected by cancer in Ireland, at all stages of their
cancer journey.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:

The Patient Education Programmes Manager (PEPM), working as part of a
project team, will lead the design, development and coordination of
educational support programmes for people affected by cancer, working
in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.

The post holder will facilitate the development of patient education
and support programmes, maximising their reach by using multi-pronged
delivery methodologies including face-to-face engagement and digital
delivery.

Education supports will be designed for cancer patients to ensure they
are:-

* aware of available supports and how to access them,
* encouraged with self-management,
* provided with trusted information and health education,
* linked in with relevant Irish Cancer Society supports and services
* supported during and following active treatment and signposted to
supports and links where required.

Working with teams across the Society, the PEPM will further enhance
the capacity of the Irish Cancer Society to develop and deliver
patient education and supports for people in Ireland affected by
cancer.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Lead the Irish Cancer Society?s work to design, test, pilot and
refine innovative, evidenced-based educational support programmes for
people affected by cancer.
* Ensure support programmes developed are conceived and designed to
allow for multi-pronged delivery, including the use of online digital
solutions to maximise programme reach.
* Ensure programmes are accessible and responsive to the needs of
people affected by cancer
* Adapt and customise programmes to reflect the needs of differing
population cohorts
* Develop relationships with key external partners to inform
programme design, ensure the programmes reflect patient needs, and to
create appropriate content.
* Ensure collaboration between the Irish Cancer Society, National
Cancer Control Programme, Cancer Support Centres and other voluntary
bodies to provide information and education to people affected by
cancer.
* Working with internal stakeholders, develop a recruitment and
marketing strategy to engage with key target groups to promote uptake
of the education and support programmes developed.
* Lead the development of education and training materials to
support the programme
* Define and document the end-to-end implementation process
including education and training for those involved in direct
programme delivery, to support a consistent, user-centred experience.
* Develop and implement programme evaluations and report on KPIs,
reach and impact.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

* A relevant degree or professional qualification in a field such as
healthcare, training, or education;
* A minimum of five years? (or equivalent) relevant work
experience;
* Experience in the development and delivery of education, learning
and development or engagement programmes. Experience in patient
education is an advantage, but applicants with other learning and
development backgrounds are welcome, and should be able to demonstrate
how their experience can be translated to a patient context.
* Experience in the use of digital platforms to deliver learning
solutions;
* Ability to work effectively with co-workers, build effective
partnerships internally and externally; and collaborate with
credibility and impact with medical, nursing and health and social
care professionals;
* Excellent interpersonal, and verbal and written communication
skills;
* Strong facilitation and training skills;
* Excellent organisational, administration and co-ordination skills;
* Excellent ICT skills, with a good working knowledge of data base
management;
* Proactive and flexible in approach.

DESIRABLE:

* Experience of working in the healthcare, community development or
not for profit sector;
* Experience of working with different population groups including
disadvantaged groups;
* Demonstrated understanding of strategies and policies relating to
cancer and chronic disease management, and health equity at both
regional and national level.

GENERAL:

* The Irish Cancer Society operates a no-smoking policy and the post
holder must not smoke in the office or when on Society business
outside the office;
* Be flexible and willing to travel within Ireland and work outside
of normal working hours;
