charity dedicated to changing the lives of people who have been
affected by imprisonment.

Our team works hard to provide a range of services to our clients,
whilst working closely with their families. We believe we can create
safer communities and lower reoffending rates by preparing our clients
with the skills they need to positively re-enter society.

JOB SPECIFICATION ? COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER (CSS)

POSITION: Community Support Worker

LOCATION: Dublin 2, and all Dublin prisons.

REPORTING STRUCTURE REGARDING THE ROLE

The Community Support Worker reports directly to the CSS Manager and
is an active part of the wider CAP team.

_BACKGROUND TO THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT SCHEME (CSS)
The CSS was developed in collaboration with the Probation Service in
response to prison overcrowding and aims to address the recidivism
levels of prisoners serving sentences of between 3 and **Apply on the

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

This is a part time position with specific responsibility for key
working CSS clients within Care After Prison. This role is funded by
the Irish Prison Service as part of the Community Support Scheme and
the Community Support Worker is expected to adhere to Care after
Prison working practices and in line with IPS guidelines.

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

The purpose of the role is to engage with and manage a case load of
Community Support Scheme clients and to support and facilitate the
removal of barriers to re-integration into society of individuals who
have been affected by imprisonment.

THE MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY ARE:

_1. CLIENT ASSESSMENT AND SUPPORT_

MAIN ELEMENTS:

* Assess clients? barriers to returning to society in the context
of their whole life.
* Assess collaboratively with the client to see what strengths he or
she might have to build on to reduce recidivism.
* Carry out a risk assessment with clients to create the safest
possible plan.
* Work with clients to develop a holistic and in- depth work focused
action plan with defined activities which the individual client needs
to complete within agreed timescales
* Work closely and intensively with the clients to gain trust and
?buy in? to proposed actions
* Monitor, review and evaluate with clients the progress they are
making in carrying out their action plan.
* Liaise and discuss issues related to the client and the action
plan with the CSS Manager
* Assist and take part in staff meetings and progress meetings to
ensure a highly efficient level of communication between staff and
service users.
* Liaise with other agencies and stakeholders to create effective
pathways for clients to services and support

_2. RECORD KEEPING_

MAIN ELEMENTS:

* Ensure that data sharing protocols are strictly adhered to
* Provide timely and accurate progress reports, identify issues and
propose and develop solutions
* Provide weekly (and monthly) written update reports on progress
against action plans to the CSS Manager
* Keep all information relating to staff and service users
confidential.

_3. OTHER_

MAIN ELEMENTS:

* Contribute towards your own training and development
* Actively contribute to supervision sessions
* Assist the CSS manager with data base maintenance
* Accompany the CSS manager and actively contribute to weekly
meetings with the IPS

information to the Executive Director, the wider team, Board of
Directors and outside agencies as requested
* Represent Care After Prison professionally, its ethos, values and
culture, in all dealings with people inside and outside the
organisation

in every aspect of the work, towards clients, colleagues, Board
members, members of the public and other agencies.
* Create a culture where a new beginning is held in high regard and
seen as realistic and achievable, even if a lot of change needs to
happen in the meantime

To assist in other aspects of the work of Care After Prison as the
need arises and to carry out any other reasonable duty as may be
assigned that is consistent with the nature of the job and its level
of responsibility.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

_ESSENTIAL_

* Minimum of 1 years? experience working in prisoners?
rehabilitation, addiction or mental health areas, homelessness,
community development or a related field
* Carrying out assessments with clients to achieve stated goals
* Building relationships of trust and motivating clients
* Relevant third level qualification (e.g. Addiction studies,
Criminology, Homelessness, Social Care)
* Working on own initiative and working positively in teams

KNOWLEDGE

* The challenges faced by people affected by imprisonment
* Current issues related to the Irish criminal justice system
* Causes of criminal behaviour and strategies to reduce recidivism

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

GARDA VETTING: As our work involves contact with vulnerable adults,
candidates under consideration for employment with Care After Prison
will be subject to Garda vetting.

FUNDING: This is a specific purpose post, subject to funding being
available.
