The Bird & The Tree: Educator
EDUCATOR

The Bird & The Tree?is an educational project doing things
differently. Our approach is child-led in a contained and creative
environment, where we as facilitators invite curiosity and learning
with our small group of students (**Apply on the website** years) in a
way that is both nurturing and encouraging for the children in our
care.

WE ARE GROWING?

From our beginning in September **Apply on the website** our group has
begun to grow and we have scope to expand by a small number of
students this academic year. From September **Apply on the website**
we will begin to enroll a younger class of children aged **Apply on
the website** years. We currently operate on a four day week but as of
next term Elisa Pelletier of Growing Roots will offer forest school on
Friday mornings.

COME AND BE A PART OF OUR TEAM?.

Located in Howth, North County Dublin, we are currently reaching out
to see if there is a passionate, energised and experienced educator
out here who would like to join The Bird & The Tree and help us be
part of the educational change.

ARE YOU THE RIGHT PERSON?

Are you motivated to step outside what the mainstream system has to
offer, to put your energy into helping to pioneer an alternative means
of preparing young people for the world as it is and the global
challenges we face, then get in touch! We are looking for an educator
who has both life experience, and an understanding of what an
education can be. Who is open, curious and willing to experiment with
the ?what if? and to be flexible enough to change the plan if it
is in the best interests of the children?s learning.

WHAT IS OUR LEARNING STYLE?

We are child-led in our approach, however, we do also feel keenly that
it is our responsibility to prepare our students for the world as it
is, and so our model is to have an academic focus sitting alongside
the emotional and social needs of the children. How we approach this
is by developing their academic aptitude by drawing on their interests
and channeling their unique voices. We invite our students to engage
usefully with the world around them through the development of life
skills, as well as nurturing their understanding of the natural world
and our relationship with it. Currently the children are learning
about seeds, planting and growing in the vegetable garden as spring
re-awakens life. Creativity and the arts are an integral part of our
framework, a medium to engage with our students and their
imaginations.

WHO ARE WE?

Tara Wilson hosts this school, and is one of the principle
facilitators of the project. Her background is in psychology and she
is currently training in Group Work Practice. She has been actively
working and researching this project for the past number of years.
Cathy Addis joined the project with her son last summer and is another
principle facilitator working with the children. Cathy is a fine
artist, yoga teacher and healer. May Fitzgerald brings Irish to life
through her passion for history and lore, as a talented illustrator
the students are transported to the time of myth and legend and in
doing so learn our ancestral language and story.

It has been and will continue to be The Bird & The Tree?s approach
to bring in community to share their expertise and passions with our
students, such as Anna in music, James and Pete in all things growing,
and Ruth in her passion for both the environment and crafts.
