COMMUNICATIONS AND ADVOCACY MANAGER

Reporting to the chief executive officer, the successful candidate
will implement a comprehensive communications and advocacy strategy to
achieve the organisation?s strategic priorities. This will
contribute to increased awareness and understanding of arthritis, as
well as of the work and impact of Arthritis Ireland as a patient
organisation and health research charity. The communications and
advocacy manager will work closely with the services and fundraising
teams to achieve our goals. This is a unique opportunity for an
experienced, creative communications professional to play a central
role in growing the organisation and its reach, thereby positively
impacting people living with arthritis.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

* Develop, implement and evaluate a communications strategy with
clear objectives and measurable results
* Develop, implement and evaluate awareness campaigns with a view to
increasing understanding of arthritis and engagement with our services
* Develop, implement and evaluate research communications campaigns
* Manage and develop the Arthritis Ireland brand
* Lead on website and digital strategy
* Research and identify new opportunities for content development
across digital and traditional channels
* Manage the development and production of the organisation?s
printed and digital resources and assets
* Manage the organisation?s public relations, fostering
relationships with the media and act as organisational spokesperson,
as appropriate
* Engage with and manage relationships with external agencies and
suppliers
* Collaborate with and support the services and fundraising teams,
and the volunteer network
* Develop, implement and evaluate advocacy campaigns and
evidence-based policy proposals
* Engage with stakeholders in the health service and political
infrastructure
* Plan, coordinate and manage events
* Manage the communications team
* Manage the annual communications budget
* Represent Arthritis Ireland on external sectoral and national
bodies

THE PERSON

EXPERIENCE

* A minimum of five years? relevant experience in developing and
implementing communications strategies with a track record of
achieving organisational objectives
* Experience in a health or non-profit environment an advantage
* Experience managing a team
* Excellent understanding of communications best practice
* Proven experience of PR, advertising and digital marketing
* Experience of public affairs
* Experience of event management

SKILLS

* Exceptional people skills with a demonstrated capacity to build and
maintain relationships with, and influence, a wide variety of
stakeholders
* Collaborative approach to working
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with expert
proof?reading and editing skills
* Excellent media relations, understanding and pitching ability with
a thorough understanding of the Irish media landscape
* Ability to use digital media for communications purposes,
including website, social media and digital marketing
* Excellent organisational skills and proven self-starter
* Strong analytical and evaluation skills

QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant academic and/or professional qualification(s) in
communications, digital marketing, public relations, health promotion,
etc. an advantage

* An experienced, creative and adaptable individual who has a proven
track record of working independently and as part of a team
* Self-motivated
* Curious individual always looking to learn and improve processes
