WHAT DOES BALLYOWEN MEADOWS DO?

Ballyowen Meadows is a Traveller specific residential based family
assessment centre. This purpose built centre provides a unique setting
in which the strengths and difficulties of a family can be assessed in
a safe and secure environment. We believe that it is in the best
interest of children to remain within the primary family unit. This
unique environment combines traditional child protection residential
placements with the awareness of the importance of family in the lives
of children even when family circumstances are the direct cause of
child protection concerns. The model aims to be preventative in its
design enabling service providers to uniquely address child protection
issues within the families while at the same time supporting families
to remain connected with each other. This approach also goes a long
way to ensuring that the cultural needs of Traveller children
requiring statutory intervention are also maintained.
