LOCATION: Ransboro, Co Sligo

PURPOSE OF ROLE

The role of the Adult Support Worker will be to provide individualised
support for people with disabilities, to enable them to live the life
of their own choosing in accordance with the values of New Directions
which underpin the principles of inclusion, rights, choice, and
independence in the community. Supporting service user in conjunction
with Person Centred Planning (PCP) to set personal goals develop and
carry out a plan to achieve these goals.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

SERVICE USER CARE

* To listen to their wishes and support them to advocate for
themselves; while encouraging them to take responsibility for
decisions in their day to day lives.
* To actively search for opportunities for the service users to make
personally satisfying contributions, to build positive relationships
and to demonstrate their abilities and strengths.
* Acting as a key worker for the service user. (A member of staff
appointed to assist and support individuals to achieve their goals.
* To actively seek new interests and opportunities with them to
interact in their community in a positive way via social
roles/volunteering, work, membership of groups/clubs.
* Personal assistance for service users in the areas of personal
needs including Intimate care and swimming.
* Working as part of a team in contributing to the design and
further development of the Day Services Programme in line with New
Directions
* Development of individualised programme of activity for a service
user.
* Using a flexible approach to help meet service user?s individual
needs.
* Maintaining a code of confidentiality and discretion in all
dealings with service users, families, and staff.
* Driving and escort duties in Gateway Community Care transporting
service users to different locations where necessary.

ADMINISTRATION & OPERATIONS

* Attend and participate creatively in team meetings.
* Maintaining record systems in accordance with Adult Services
policies.

REQUIREMENT:

* Requirements - Qualification in relevant discipline (e.g.: health,
community, care sector) FETAC level 5 minimum.
* To honour and respect the diverse requirements of both individuals
and groups using the services.
* To hold a full clean driver?s licence and be willing to drive
company vehicles - Be comfortable with lone working and exercise all
due care and take necessary protective and preventative measures in
the best interest of the service user, Gateway Community Care and
their own best interest.
* To work as part of a team within the service and will be reliable
and professional in their work.
* The post holder may be required to be flexible in relation to
working arrangements, duties hours and base location.
* Have a minimum of two year?s post graduate experience in working
with the Intellectual Disability Sector
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Excellent co-ordinating skills
* Responsible for the day to day running of activity programmes and
to ensure all practices are in line with the centres policies and
procedures.
* Experience of working with individuals with behaviours of concern.
