ADVOCACY AND CAMPAIGNS MANAGER

OUR ORGANISATION

The Anne Sullivan Foundation is a national charity that promotes the
interests of people who are deafblind. Located in Stillorgan, Co
Dublin, the Foundation funds a national outreach service supporting
people who are deafblind across Ireland and promotes the wishes and
needs of the deafblind community, by advocating for the recognition of
deafblindness as a unique disability.

MISSION

We continue Anne Sullivan?s legacy by empowering people who are
deafblind to pursue meaningful, active and fulfilling lives. We do
this by providing residential and day services, advocacy and support
services in partnership with people who are deafblind, their families,
statutory and non-statutory organisations and local communities. In
addition, the Anne Sullivan Foundation has an ambitious plan to build
?fit for purpose? accommodation for residents, over the next
number of years.

Currently, we are looking to recruit an ADVOCACY AND CAMPAIGNS MANAGER

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES -

_LOBBYING AND CAMPAIGNING_

* Advocate for the rights of people who are deafblind to be upheld,
in line with the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of
People with Disabilities.
* Campaign and advocate for the official recognition of
deafblindness as a distinct disability.
* Prepare and progress submissions, to ensure the rights of people
who are deafblind are included in National policy and strategy.

_NETWORKING AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING_

* Establish and maintain effective relationships with representatives
of the community, related services and public interest groups.
* Ensure that people who are deafblind, requiring information,
advice and advocacy, are provided with the service that best supports
them.
* Ensure that people who are deafblind are enabled to self-advocate
and are supported to use appropriate mainstream services in their
local community.
* Maintain and develop country wide ASC Advocacy Working Groups.
* Encourage and support advocacy groups active engagement in social
policy to identify and report on issues that arise for people who are
deafblind, in order to inform systemic changes in both service
delivery and policy.
* Liaise with other organisations/services to identify trends,
interests and concerns and to also provide advice on deafblindness and
the supports available.
* Support the development and sharing of specialist deafblind
expertise within and across interagency groups.

_MEDIA, AWARENESS RAISING AND EVENT MANAGEMENT_

* Prepare/edit organisational publications for internal and external
audiences, including newsletters, submissions and reports.
* Respond to requests for information from the media or designate
another appropriate spokesperson or information source.
* Arrange public appearances, lectures and open days to increase
service awareness and promote goodwill.
* Organise and facilitate events to raise awareness of the supports
required by children and adults who are deafblind.
* Liaise with ASC employees to produce/coordinate promotional
material.
* Contribute to the development and preparation of resource and
training materials to support the delivery of quality advocacy
services for people who are deafblind.
* Act as Administrator on ASC social media sites e.g., Twitter,
Instagram and Facebook.

_RESEARCH_

* Identify and ensure relevant research is carried out by or on
behalf of the ASC and Foundation with a view to publication.
* Interpreting and translating both national and international
research to drive advocacy and policy work.
* Working in collaboration with the management team to support staff
to engage in participative research projects. e.g., action research
* Contribute a research perspective to the strategic plan for the
Anne Sullivan Centre and Foundation.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

* A relevant third level qualification in Social Care or?related
discipline
* Minimum of 3?years? experience?within the disability sector
* Proven track?record?of campaigning for change in public policy
* Strong research, analysis and report writing skills
* Good IT skills and working knowledge of Social Media platforms

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

* An appreciation and interest in the work of a Charitable
Organisation such as The Anne Sullivan Foundation
* A qualification in the area of Advocacy
* Knowledge of relevant disability legislation, disability rights
and issues, developments in disability services
* Well-developed interpersonal skills

LOCATION: REMOTELY AND ON SITE IN STILLORGAN, CO DUBLIN
