ROLE TITLE: BEFRIENDER

RESPONSIBLE TO: MANAGER

WHERE (LOCATION): To provide 1:1 Telephone Befriending to an allocated
person(s) within Westmeath for SWEETS CLG Organisation.

TIME COMMITMENT: **Apply on the website**.5hrs per week (hours to
worked over 4 days per week)

ROLE:

To befriend people within your community who meet specific criteria
who may be feeling lonely and isolated during these challenging times.
This may be via a telephone call. The main aim of the Telephone
Befriending service is to provide support to clients using the service
through a weekly telephone call. Telephone befrienders usually call
the same person each week at the same time, to provide a listening
ear, links to other services and to monitor general well being

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* To make contact via telephone with a person(s) with whom you have
been matched on the agreed regular time pattern
* To give the person(s) some social interaction and emotional
support through conversation
* To monitor general wellbeing
* To stay connected with the organisation and feedback any concerns,
that may need addressing
* To signpost to specialised services if required
* Update database with relevant information on a daily basis

QUALITIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* A friendly, listening ear
* To know when specialist services are required
* Patience and a warm and friendly attitude
* Must have an interest in working with older people and a genuine
understanding and respect for their needs
* Willingness to follow current advice to keep yourself and others
safe
* Willingness and ability to ensure that any information you share

TRAINING AND SUPPORT

* Complete induction and essential training for the role
* To access regular online resources/training
* Regular contact with your Manager (telephone or other) for support
and guidance and feedback on a weekly basis to be determined
* To respond to service changes and requirements

ANY OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Due to the vulnerable nature of the people we support we will require
two references. Further details will be discussed with you at
recruitment as to how these will be obtained at this time. Garda
Vetting will be required.

RATE OF PAY

Payment rates are in line with current Community Service Programme
guidelines
